this is another late night moment. i only occasionally watch family guy, i really hate the father character. i do really enjoy stewie and brian though, so i generally only watch it when the episode focuses on them. i saw this episode a while ago, it was on again the other night and i found it just as hilarious. thanks to whoever put this on youtube.

mad men : set in the sixties with dashing men in sexy suits and women in torpedo bras. also its a damn good show, somewhat reminiscent of the good seasons of six feet under. we are in the middle of the first season, trying to catch up since the second season already started. this show really makes me want to drink scotch.
eureka : the second season of this somewbuhat cheesy sci fi show is just out on dvd. while this show is far from perfect, it has a very quirky buffyness about it. and i have a bit of a crush on jack carter.
americas’s best dance crew : since watching this show i have become an authority on dance crews. i’m rooting for fanny pack. i recommend following the link this youtube video dosen’t do them justice.
project runway : the last season of on bravo. i loves me some project runway. hands down the best reality show that will ever exist.
wall-e : utterly charming, amazingly grand in scope, i almost cried (people were crying all around us).
the dark knight : i liked it more than batman begins, but all i can say is “meh”.

finally one of the best television shows from my childhood is out on dvd, square pegs. it’s strange to think that i have the sex and the city movie to thank for it. square pegs was sarah jessica parker’s first big hollywood role, so they timed the release of the dvd with the s.a.t.c. movie.
i have memories of watching square pegs on my little tv that i had in my bedroom. although it was never mentioned i always suspected the show took place somewhere in connecticut, ct was a popular location for eighties televison. i used to walk around quoting it, it introduced me to “gag me with a spoon”, “gross me out the door”, and “totally different head, totally”. musically this show was an influence also, with guest spots done by the waitresses and devo, i was entranced by the punkier side of new wave.
over the years i would periodically meet people who remembered square pegs, but for the most part no else seemed to had seen it. almost ten years ago nick at nite ran a marathon of a bunch of the episodes and i managed to tape them. i watched that video so much that i almost wore it through, not to mention i would also lend it out, recruiting others to the cult. finally after years of waiting the complete series is mine.
oh tyra.

another overdue post.
i was raised by the television, i even had cable in my bedroom. almost every night i watched nick at night. donna reed, mr ed, dobie gillis and get smart were part of my ritual. but the show i loved the most was rowan and martin’s laugh-in. laugh-in made a huge impression on me. i was saddened by the news of dick martin’s death earlier this week.
thank you dick martin (he’s the one on the right). thank you too dan rowan who passed away in the late eighties.
the best part of laugh in were the cocktail parties, someday i will have one like this. i just need enough friends who are good with one liners.
you can sit there.

bring it on: in it to win it - i am a huge fan of the cheersploitation genre, it is by far my favorite sploitation. the original bring it on is a masterpeice in the genre, right up there with the swinging cheerleaders, revenge of the cheerleaders, and satan’s cheerleaders (which really didn’t have enough satan). b.i.o:iitwi is the forth in the bring it on series. the second one, bring it on again, is horribly forced and is for cheersploitation fans only. the third one, bring it on: all or nothing, is great. starring the cheerleader from heroes and beyonce’s younger sister, they really bring the cheersploitation. b.i.o:iitwi is very loosely base on west side story, the two rival squads are the strangely pale west coast sharks and the scarily tan east coast jets. they are competing at cheercamp to represent the u.s. in an international cheer tour. one of the girls from the sharks fall for one of the guys from the jets. they end up having a dramatic nighttime cheer-off, horribly trying for another west side story homage, where a few of the cheerleaders end up getting hurt leaving neither squad with enough members to compete. so they forgive their differences and join together (as “the shets”) to defeat the rival cheer camp for the spot on the cheer tour, riveting i know. this movie is full a bad “emotionally revealing” dialogue, and strangely had tons of product placement for the world wildlife foundation. while not as bad as bring it on again it is far from the original or all or nothing. i do hesitate to recommend this to anyone who isn’t a cheersploitation fan.
the tomorrow people - since i recently rediscovered the soundtrack to this old british show i added it and bumped it up. so far i have watched the first disc which had the slaves of jedikiah storyline. and it also introduced the concept of the next step in human evolution, which is a group of british teens now as homo-superiors, or the tomorrow people. they have the ability to communicate telepathically and they can teleport short distances. somehow they have access to a jelly powered supercomputer named tim. with tim’s help their powers are greatly enhanced. this show is full of great sci-fi dialogue and wonderfully bad special effects. this is highly recommended.
michael clayton - i am never one for the big hollywood drama, for some reason the trailer for michael clayton appealed to me. it was probably the presence of the marvolous tilda swinton. this movie didn’t work for me. it was full of overacting and falls into the category i call “heterosexual male fantasy”, basically george clooney is the kind of “guy” that “guys” want to be. there was none of the tension that the trailer promised and it wasn’t at all surprising or shocking. george clooney is kind of sexy and tilda swinton is really good in it, so if that is all you need then you may be satisfied.
h.m.s. pinafore/trial by jury - if you like watching stage productions, and are a fan of gilbert and sullivan then this is for you. this is a production of two g&s operettas by an austrialian compay, they are a solid cast with alright sets. definably for fans only.
